Governor Signs HBACA Housing Affordability Bill
Governor Ducey signed SB 1409, sponsored by Senator Warren Petersen, into law on Tuesday, May 11th. SB 1409 requires cities and towns to consider cost when adopting a zoning ordinance or zoning text amendment of general applicability that impacts the cost of housing for sale or rent.
The HBACA has been extremely focused on housing affordability at the Arizona State Capitol. This issue has attracted interest from several Legislators concerned about the increasing cost of housing in a constrained market. Two key areas that can help reduce housing costs are the length of local reviews and regulatory reform.
