Is the Arizona State Government Headed for a Shutdown?
Unlike the federal government, the Arizona legislature is constitutionally mandated to pass a budget each year. They pass a budget, or our state government shuts down at the end of the fiscal year on June 30th.
It is quite common for the budget to be adopted in May, but few have been adopted in June, which is what could happen this year. Or we may not adopt a budget by June 30th. Republicans control both the Senate (16-14) and House (31-29) by just one seat.
