Legislative Update – Tax Cuts, COVID Liability, Regulatory Reform
The Legislative session continues to operate under the COVID rules, which significantly impacts the ability to communicate with Legislators and creates unique challenges to advocating for HBACA members. In the Senate, all committee hearings were held virtually. It is the same in the House, but there is some in-person testimony. Recently, the House and Senate opened their chambers to the public to allow people to view discussions on the House and Senate floor. In addition, there is no longer a requirement to wear masks in either Chamber.
Since Committee hearings have been completed, now is the time when both Chambers work bills through the floor process—amending bills in the Committee of the Whole and final voting bills out of each Chamber. Most of this work has been completed on many bills which have been sent to the Governor for signature into law.
The final major hurdle of the session is developing a state budget.
